Hibbing High School Auditorium
$3.1M Auditorium Restoration in Hibbing, MN
The 1,800-seat Hibbing High School Auditorium is a historically significant building, known for its impressive architecture and long-standing place in the community. The auditorium features an elegant design, hand-molded ceilings and polished cut-glass chandeliers. Beginning in June 2017, the district began a $3.1M restoration project to freshen up the historic space. The first phase concentrated on stage improvements, including the replacement of the rigging to meet current safety standards, new stage lighting, and sound system upgrades. The space's sound systems were one of the major upgrades, providing better acoustics and projection equipment for multimedia presentations. The second phase of renovation, included seat refurbishing, repainting, adding an acoustic shell, and a state-of-the-art projection system. The main goal of this phase of the project involved extending the longevity of the original seats in the auditorium that consisted of their original fabric from the 1960's.
In order to restore the auditorium and upgrade systems and technology, ARI worked with the Minnesota Historical Society and the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office.
