Wrenshall Indoor Air Quality Improvements

Wrenshall School District's 3-Phase Indoor Air Quality Improvement Project

ARI worked with the Wrenshall School District to determine existing deficiencies and describe a scope of work necessary to undertake and complete a critically-needed indoor air quality improvement to provide air quality that meets today’s more stringent, clean standards.

The school’s existing 1963 structure was waffle slab construction with minimal ceiling height and sprayed asbestos texture. The building envelope was in poor condition and the existing elementary school had no ventilation at all.

ARI worked with the District to develop creative solutions to indoor air quality needs. Lower-level mechanical rooms were created with under-utilized educational space and a new route for the ventilation system was developed at the exterior of the building. This allowed our team to not only provide access to all classroom spaces but also to provide a new skin to the poor condition of the exterior façade. With the need to add ventilation, classrooms received new soffits, ceilings, lights, and interior finish updates. The facility now meets the needs of today’s students and educational standards.

This project's third and final phase works to transform an old recreation building into a Career and Technical Education (CTE) space. As a result of the new CTE building, the district will be able to provide a wider range of programs to students and be able to enhance their overall skill set; the CTE building will include shop space, offices, classrooms, restrooms and storage. Also included in this phase of the project are parking lot upgrades and a new front entrance configuration that focuses on student and visitor safety.
