Lincoln High School Remodel Prioritized Security, Safety and Student Flow

With a space adequacy and educational assessment, ARI established the high school’s existing traffic flow was not conducive to student activities. Among other details found in the study, it became clear that security, safety, and flow would be highly prioritized in the remodel. During the design process, ARI and the District designed a new, secure main entrance, community-accommodating auditorium and lobby, and renovated the administration spaces.

Relocation of the technical education classrooms to the high school site was also an important decision to eliminate the need for the kids to leave the high school grounds. ARI designed a state-of-the-art technical education facility that incorporated classroom spaces for the building trades, electronics, computer services, medical careers and agricultural programs to provide project-based learning in the areas directly related to job employment in the region.

Once crowded, outdated, and uninviting areas were transformed into 21st-century learning spaces that the students and staff are proud to call their own. The District’s use of the building by the public has increased immensely since the completion of the project. Maintenance staff no longer spends most of the day repairing equipment and the community has a sensible, multipurpose facility.
