Bois Forte Law Enforcement Center & Courthouse

Law Enforcement Center & Courthouse Expansion in Nett Lake, MN

In 2012, ARI designed an addition to the existing Bois Forte Law Enforcement Center. The new facility includes garage space, parking, a weight-room facility, office spaces, and processing areas. The interior renovation of the space included floor plan restructuring to allow for a training room and conference room, mechanical & electrical upgrades, and updates to security systems. The building interior was outdated and spaces were inadequate for their current needs. ARI worked with tribal leaders to ensure that the interior finishes were upgraded to meet the current safety and security needs as well as to bring identity to their facility. The inadequate amount of security, both system and facility layout, was a design opportunity. The visual connection between the office and holding cell locations as well as proper lighting and wayfinding was designed to reduce the security risks to all who enter the facility. New canopies, updated façade and signage, security, lighting, and a large, 3-stall garage were all part of the exterior renovation.

An additional 6,500 sq. ft. Tribal Court addition was designed by ARI in 2017, with construction completed in 2018. The project included two additional offices for ICWA staff. In addition to site work and new construction, ARI provided a furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) package.
