COOK COUNTY AIRPORT
Project Background:
ARI collaborated with RS&H to design the renovation and addition for the municipal airport for Cook County, located in Grand Marais, MN. The renovation includes a reconfiguration of the existing layout, as well as the replacement of all interior & exterior finishes; including flooring, ceilings, casework, siding, windows, and roofing. The outdated mechanical and electrical systems were also replaced to improve the overall energy efficiency of the facility. A 600 sq. ft. building addition was designed to include space for a break room, conference room, and vestibules at both entrances. The exterior design concept was to create a contextual form that remains appropriate for municipal airport architecture.
The interior concept was to create a warm and inviting space that can both function as an airport, as well as serve as a comfortable, ”at-home” environment for those awaiting departure.
